About Craig Sengelow

Craig Sengelow is an award-winning Wellington-based composer with over 30 professional productions for stage and screen. Drawing on influences from electronic music, western art music, and indie rock, he brings a distinctive and wide-ranging musical voice that supports and enhances the story.

His screen work includes eight short films, among them the Oscar-nominated Two Cars, One Night. For theatre and dance, his credits include the Mega Mix of Mozart for New Zealand Opera's production of The Marriage of Figaro, Ranterstantrum at the New Zealand Arts Festival, and various collaborations with choreographer Merenia Gray, including Te Mana, which toured New Zealand. Craig was named Sound Designer of the Year at the Wellington Theatre Awards for Have Car Will Travel, and received a further nomination for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. His most recent work includes music and sound design for Wonderlight Theatre Aotearoa's children's productions The Home Inside and Wonderkind.

Beyond his work for stage and screen, Craig maintains an active independent creative life, recording under his own name and as the IO Project, spanning electroacoustic composition, electronica, and rock. His most ambitious work is a setting of TS Eliot's The Hollow Men for cello, pianos, organ, effects, tape, and narrator. He has also released the album Up at the Heights and produced Fading Light, the debut album of Wellington rock band Halcyon Drift. His music is available on Spotify, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud.

Craig holds a Master of Music (Composition) from Victoria University of Wellington, where he studied under Ross Harris, Jack Body, David Farquhar, and John Young, and won multiple awards including the Wellington City Council Music Prize.
